I had planned on taking a few months off to catch up on my reading and a little golf, but the the response to Burke’s War has been so strong that I have been forced to dive into the planned sequel, Burke’s Gamble. Look for it by the end of the year, maybe as a Christmas present to my readers.
Burke’s War, is a contemporary, action thriller that already has 34 Five Star Reviews out of the 36 posted, a Rating of 4.9, and has been in the Kindle Mystery, Thriller, Suspense & Crime Top 30 all month. Not too shabby! Think ‘The American Sniper’ takes on ‘The Godfather,’ or Bob Lee Swagger meets the Gambinos. It is my longest book and has the most intricate, detailed plot and cast of characters of any of them. I think it’s my best, and I hope you will agree.
As Bob Burke’s 737 comes in to land at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, he looks out his window and sees a man murder a woman on a rooftop below. No one believes him, of course, but that doesn’t matter. He knows what he saw, and Bob Burke isn’t the kind of guy to let a thing like that rest. Over the next three days, he finds himself butting heads with the Chicago mob, crooked suburban cops, a zealous US Attorney, a psychopathic doctor, and his own vindictive soon-to-be-ex-wife, who is trying to take his company away from him. Slight of build and now a telecommunications company executive, Bob Burke appears to be an easy guy to dismiss; but ‘the telephone guy’ is a former Army Ranger and Delta Force commander who spent four tours in Iraq and the rugged mountains of Afghanistan running ‘special operations’ missions. His men were some of the most lethal killers the US government ever produced; but as they readily admit, the little guy the middle of the photos is the one you don’t want to meet in a dark alley. So, when the bodies start falling, a young woman needs help, and the wrong people start pushing his buttons, long odds don’t bother him in the slightest. His new combat zone might be a high-rise office building, tract houses in a suburban subdivision, and a wooded Chicago Forest Preserve District, but they started it and he intends to finish it. And when Burke does need a little backup, he knows just who to call.

My fifth and newest action adventure novel, Aim True, My Brothers came out on Kindle on October 29 AND IS NOW OUT IN AUDIO BOOK. It now has 35 Amazon ratings and reviews, 30 of which are Amazon Five Stars, a 4.8 rating! That’s not shabby either! This new fiction novel is a contemporary, thriller novel set today in Washington DC and Virginia, as Middle East terrorism explodes on American shores. Ibrahim Al-Bari is a highly skilled Hamas commander who has battled and killed Americans throughout Iraq and Afghanistan. After losing two brothers and a sister in a bloody attack on a civilian bus in Israel, Al-Bari decides that fighting US surrogates in far-away places is a futile waste of Palestinian blood. “To kill a snake, you must go to its lair and cut off its head,” he says, as he decides to take his terror war private and strike at the heart of the American government itself. No simple man with a rifle in a book depository window; when Ibrahim Al-Bari strikes, he will unleash an old weapon that will take out the President and many other national and international leaders in a dramatic, fiery, terrorist attack on national television. In this fast-paced thriller novel, trying to stop him, is Eddie Rankin, a maverick FBI agent, who has never met a rule he couldn’t break; Moustapha ‘Mouse’ Khalidi, the smooth, urbane Chief of Security at the Egyptian Embassy in Washington; and Rachel Ullman, a hard-edged, female Israeli Mossad agent, counter-terror specialist, and killer, who lost her own family to a suicide bomber. The question is, with their personal frictions and contradictory orders, can this temporary, dysfunctional alliance hold together long enough to catch Ibrahim Al-Bari before they kill each other — and the clock is ticking. Like my other suspense thriller novels, this is a good fiction novel available exclusively on Kindle Select and Kindle Prime. The First Chapter and numerous Reviews of this top mystery thriller can be found at this book tab. The cover was designed by Todd Hebertson a graphic designer and cover artist in Salt Lake City who does a great job capturing the essence of my thriller novels. I think both the cover and the story are among my best.
Winner Lose All, a top fiction book and page turner, was released in May on Kindle Select and Kindle Prime. A military espionage thriller, it is a history piece set in the closing months of WWII, AND ALSO IS NOW OUT IN AUDIO BOOK . As one brutal war grinds to an end in the rubble of Nazi Germany, in this suspense thriller all eyes quickly turn to the next ‘cold’ one. It has 104 Amazon ratings, 66 of which are 5-Star, a 4.5 rating! The Americans, the Russians, and the British all know that the future will belong to whomever can grab Hitler’s new rockets, jet fighters, long-range bombers, synthetic fuels and his other ‘wonder weapons.’ As much an action romance as a suspense thriller novel, it is also the story of the torrid but impossible love affair between Ed Scanlon, a brilliant, young, American OSS agent and Hanni Steiner, the gritty, street-smart leader of the communist resistance cell in Leipzig. As the vice closes on Nazi Germany, they find themselves on opposite ends of an international tug of war over the plans for Germany’s revolutionary Me-262 jet fighter and the scientists who designed and built it. Once-bitter enemies quickly become tomorrow’s allies, old friends cannot to be trusted, and lies, double-dealing, and treachery are the norm. It is succeed or die, and the winner lose all in this thriller novel.
Amongst My Enemies was released as an e-book novel last spring. A historic period piece, this action adventure and one of my more intense thriller novels, is set in the 1950′s and deals with one man’s search for redemption and revenge. Inside an old German U-Boat rusting on the bottom of the Baltic are millions in gold bars, stolen art, and a secret that could tear NATO apart. The only one who knows the truth in this military thriller is Mike Randall, a battle-scarred American who survived four months in the frozen Hell of northern Germany at the end of WW II. When he does speak up in this mystery thriller novel, he puts a target on his own forehead, one which the Russians, the West Germans, the U-boat’s former owners, the Israeli Mossad, and even his own government quickly take aim at. Some want the gold, some want him dead, and some want proof about a high-ranking spy inside NATO itself, in this top thriller novel you can’t put down. Randall’s wants are much simpler. Caught between the Kremlin and a new, deadly, 4th Reich, he wants revenge and to satisfy some old debts with a steel-jacketed bullet. One of my best thriller novels, it now has 167 Amazon reviews, 95 of which are Five-Stars, a 4.3 rating!
Thursday at Noon, last year’s new fiction release on Kindle Prime and Kindle Select, was originally published as a Joan Kahn Imprint murder mystery by St. Martin’s Press in hardback, by Harlequin’s Gold Eagle in paperback, and in various foreign editions. It already has 92 Amazon reviews, 49 of which are Five Star, an average rating of 4.4!. This top fiction book is a murder mystery and thriller novel you can’t put down, and has been selected for a Stipend Award by Audible, the Amazon and I-Tunes audio book subsidiary, for production of the Audio Book edition. I’m sure those who read my other top fiction novels will enjoy it. It was reviewed favorably in the New Yorker and in many other major publications in the US. Set in Egypt in 1962, this thriller novel focuses on Richard Thomson, a burned-out CIA Agent. He is already having a very bad day when someone leaves a corpse lying on the rear steps of his hotel. Its head has been lopped off like a ripe melon and has been posed so it could look back down at its own body. The body belongs to Mahmoud Yussuf, a fat, petty thief who tried to sell Thomson photographs of a long-abandoned RAF base in the Egyptian desert. What the photos have to do with a dead Israeli Mossad agent, Nazi rocket scientists, the fanatical Moslem Brotherhood, and two missing Egyptian tank regiments could start the next Arab-Israeli War or stop it. Like ‘Night of the Generals’, this espionage and military thriller novel is a murder mystery wrapped inside an international crisis and a tense political thriller.
The Undertaker is my first original e-book thriller novel, and came out in 2011. It is a snarky, action romance thriller and an exciting, fun read — featuring stark terror punctuated by lots of humor and romance. It has 169 Amazon Reviews 84 of which are Five-Star, a 4.3 rating! It’s the best murder mystery bargain on the net! Pete Talbott is a harried Boston computer wonk still grieving over the death of his wife when he finds himself at the wrong end of Gino Parini’s .45 reading his own obituary, torn from the morning newspaper. He figures it is all a big mistake, until Parini shows him his wife’s obituary too; and this is one mystery that Pete Talbott can’t leave well-enough alone. Someone with a scalpel and an embalming table is planting bodies under other people’s names. Adding a note of action romance, his pal, Sandy Kasmarek, runs an art gallery on Chicago’s stylish North Michigan Avenue, and it appears her late-husband is also one of them. With a photographer’s eye, the quick feet of a black belt, and fingers that can hot-wire a car in seconds, Sandy has the skills you’d expect from a good Chicago catholic-school girl. Coupled with Pete, even the Undertaker is in trouble in this top thriller novel. From a funeral home in Indiana, to car chases on the Dan Ryan, snipers in Washington Square, sleazy lawyers, corrupt county sheriffs, the FBI, and mafia hit men, like my other new fiction murder mystery books, The Undertaker is a non-stop mystery thriller novel; because if Pete and Sandy don’t stop them, they’ll be next on the Undertaker’s list.
You can find details and links to these fiction novels elsewhere on this site. My next two thriller novels, both of which I am presently working on, are Undertaker Two, an action adventure romance with the return of everyone’s favorite Pete and Sandy, and a new domestic murder mystery, Through the Glass Darkly. The Undertaker, a great murder mystery and one of my best pure thriller novels, is also available in audio book from Audible and I-Tunes. Amongst My Enemies, a fun action adventure novel will be out on audio book by mid-January, with the others to follow shortly. It was selected for a Stipend Award by Audible, the Amazon and I-Tunes audio book subsidiary. The Audio Book of The Undertaker, narrated by well-known Hollywood ‘Voice Meister’ Eddie Frierson, came out on Amazon, ITunes and Audible.com. on October 31. Get a copy at http://www.audible.com/pd/Fiction/The-Undertaker-Audiobook/B00GBDB644 or ask your Librarian to order one for you. It is a good action romance, mystery thriller. As of today, we completed the narration and production of the Audio Book edition of Amongst My Enemies, and we will be preparing the audio book editions of my other thriller novels over the next 6-9 months.
If you would like to receive a free promotional download copy of either audio book, please e-mail me at email@example.com and I’ll send you one while they last. The only requirement is that you post a rating and review on Audible and Amazon. In addition to the six fiction thriller novels, I have written four screenplays. Three of these are adaptations of my fiction novels. One is original for the screen. My various mystery thriller screenplays have won First Place in the suspense category of the Final Draft contest, Finalist in Fade In, First Place in the Screenwriter’s Utopia -Screenwriter’s Showcase Awards, Second Place in the American Screenwriter’s Association, Second Place at Breckenridge, and received many other awards. One was optioned. Many readers have commented that my thriller novel The Undertaker would make a great movie.
