‘The Undertaker’ is an “Exciting Novel!” and 5-Stars from Amazon Reviewer Pat K.

5-Stars!  “Exciting Novel!  This book was so enjoyable for a couple of reasons.  First, growing up in Chicago I was familiar with streets, buildings etc.  Second the fast pace excitement was just what I needed after reading a couple of dull, boring novels.  Had this on my Kindle and took it with me for a doctor’s visit and for once was not in a hurry to get called into the office.  Just when I thought I knew what the next move would be, William Brown proved he had other ideas. Great reading.

Al Robins of Free Book Reviews gives ‘Amongst My Enemies’ 5 Stars!

5-Stars!    “Having read “The Undertaker” by this same author I knew what to expect as far as his writing style. I therefore prepared myself for a fast-paced plot-driven read and turned to the first page. By the time I looked up from this book it was midnight and I was three quarters of the way through it and was excited to read the rest. The characters reach out from the pages and drag you into their world. I must warn that you may want to set aside the time to read this one as you will not want to stop and will lose track of all time.  I felt as if I was reading a book written by one of Mr. Patterson’s ghost writers.  After the first few pages you will find yourself wrapped up so thickly by the plot you will find it hard to let go.”

My Review of Michael Connelly’s “The Reversal” – 5-Stars, from “a truly great, well-crafted read from a master of the genre.”

5-Stars!  “A truly great, well-crafted read from a master of the genre.

There are a few contemporary mystery / suspense writers for whom the current 5-Star rating system simply doesn’t apply, particularly given the current trend of `review grading inflation’ that can be found on many book review blog sites. With so many questionable 5′s floating around, writers such as Daniel Silva, David Baldacci, Ken Follett, and, to me the best of all, Michael Connelly, deserve 7′s, 8′s and even 10′s for the richness of their stories, the character depth, and the entertainment value.

“The Reversal” by Michael Connelly is one of those. He has been written 15 Harry Bosch mystery novels, centered on a skilled LA homicide detective, plus another 3 courthouse mysteries starring Mickey Haller, an LA criminal defense attorney. All are outstanding and there isn’t a clunk in the bunch. Most, but not all, of the Harry Bosch stories are written in the normal 3rd person narrative style; while the Mickey Haller books are in the 1st person. In “The Reversal” he brings both of his lead characters equally into the same story, with Bosch investigating (in 3rd person) and Haller playing prosecutor for a change (again, in the 1st person). As usual, the story is complex and deep. Maybe he got bored, but I get the felling Connelly is using this very complex narrative style simply because he can. The guy is that good at his craft!
The story deals with a particularly nasty murderer of small children who gets his 28 year old conviction reversed on procedural grounds by an appeals court. The LA District Attorney wants to retry him, and brings in Haller, normally a defense attorney, to prosecute the guy. Harry Bosch is assigned to help as lead investigator. The case is tough, and the outcome goes right down to the wire. Like every other Bosch or Haller novel, it is a truly great, well-crafted read from a master of the genre.

Another great tale from a master of the genre! and 5-Stars from Author Gary Showalter for “Thursday at Noon!

5-Stars!  “ Another great tale from a master of the genre!   Thursday at Noon is one of the more entertaining tales I’ve read this year. Set during the tumultuous 1960′s in the days of Egypt’s Gamal Abel Nasser, the tale focuses on a broken CIA agent dumped into the backwaters of Cairo to end his days in a bottle. Instead he finds himself dragged into the political firestorm of an attempted coup – German rocket scientists, Muslim extremists and Egyptian cops and one drunken spy.  And a woman, of course.   This is not the first of Bill Brown’s novels that I have read and enjoyed, and it will not be the last. Good show, Bill!
